Principal's Welcome

Welcome to the 2009/2010 School Year!

Dear Families and Ravenswood Community,

It is an honor and privilege to be the principal at Ravenswood Elementary Fine & Performing Arts Magnet Cluster School. I am looking forward to having another spectacular school year!
As many of you know, this year is very exciting for me personally, as both my son and daughter will be attending Ravenswood this Fall.  They'll be joining our Assistant Principal's children who attended Ravenswood last year, along with a number of our staff and teachers' own children as well.

The staff, students, parents and I all feel that Ravenswood is a very special place. As we move into a new school year, our school family will continue to strive to create a climate in which children, teachers and parents find a sense of community, experience the warmth of friendship, and are inspired to view learning as a life-long process.

The Ravenswood staff members are dedicated, caring professionals who are committed to the children and the educational process.
Throughout the 2009-2010 school year, the staff will continue to grow in their practice through professional development and to ensure that our students get the best educational experience possible. We will use cooperative teamwork, drawing on each other’s individual strengths and special talents to provide a comprehensive educational experience for the students. We will strive to help each child develop into an educated, well-adjusted and productive human being, focusing on educating the whole child, both academically as well as socially-emotionally.

We are fortunate to have an active parent community that supports the children in our school. These active parents help to enhance the school curriculum by providing support for school events, raising funds to benefit the Ravenswood students, organizing events to get the word out about how wonderful Ravenswood School is, and volunteering their time to make each classroom a better place. Our parents are crucial in the success of the array of school events throughout the school year and are an equally important part of what makes our school community unique.

I believe that communication is a crucial component to school success. We strive to make certain that we are responsive to critical school issues, provide timely updates on important school events and listen to our entire school community’s perspectives in order to give everyone a voice. In addition to our continuously updated school website, we will continue to send out our popular monthly school newsletter that will give additional information to the school community. We are accessible via email or in person by stopping into the office. We also utilize the use of phone calls and voice mail, progress reports, parent/teacher conferences, parent information nights, and Ravenswood School activities to enhance the communication progress. Many of our teachers send out newsletters to parents updating them on what’s happening in the classroom as well. We are going to make a concerted effort to send out all communication in both English as well as in Spanish, thanks to some dedicated volunteers who have agreed to help take on this critical need.

I am so excited to begin working again with our families and school community and I know we have another amazing year ahead.  Ravenswood is a very special place.  It is because of our dedicated students, staff, parents and school community members who continuously strive to make this school the uniquely wonderful school that it is. If you need any additional information about our school, please feel free to Contact Us by phone or email message. Ravenswood is proud of our fine tradition of academic excellence, and we look forward to providing a superior education for our students!

For your children,

Heather Connolly
